Tink knows what I mean. In Mitsukoshi in the Japan pavilion they sell bags of tiny cooked whole crabs, shells an all. Well we bought a bag home with us and me and Steven sampled them today.

They taste like lumps of sea.

    Yuk.
I love that shop, I always buy jasmine incense sticks there. They'd gone up to $9.50 last year. Ouch.
We had a look at the food but didn't buy any.

Steven insists they are nice and has eaten several of them. I can't get past the sea taste.

Still it's another "tried that" I can cross off my list.

Well done for giving it a go. I'm not very brave when it comes to trying odd foods. I did try some unusual drinks at the F&W one year. :D

Yes, they are quite nice. No bigger than a thumbnail for the most part. They are crispy and a bit sweet, with a pronounced flavor of the sea.

Definitely not for everyone, but a nice bit of Japanese style eating that doesn't involve rice and limp seaweed. ;)

That sounds interesting, but I will just watch others eat them.

Reminds of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. Love that show and love to see HIM eat things.

So are these things like a small cracker or what? They sound like something I might like but I don't recall ever seeing them.

Are those the freeze dried looking little crabs? I have not had them but I must say they look pretty gross in the bag......

Yep John, it is like eating a small, crab-shaped, sea-tasting cracker.

They are an actual crab, John.

Johnie, those could be them, but the ones in your photo look a little large, and messy. The ones in Japan (in the plastic bag) are tiny and not messy. Dried and crispy.

I think those may be larger than in real life. The link had them next to a quarter and they were about that size. And apparently dried with a coating on them?

Nope the ones I had were tiny, tiny, tiny. No coating per se, but I believe they'd been cooked in a seasoned broth and then dried as they had a bit of a sweet taste to them.
