never taken a camera on board a plane that i didn't just stuff in my back pack. Was thinking of taking my wheel along laptop bag that's quite big -what do you think? i can take the proper camera bag squished in one of the suitcases to use on day trips etc.

What about xray scanning? will this damage any part of my equipment?

Generally speaking the normal rules apply. Always carry the camera in your carry on (naturally), have it charged ready to show it's an actual camera  and make sure it's padded well enough to survive any turbulence

There's *SOME* unproven speculation that intensive xray scanning could cause bad pixels on digital sensors especially if the camera happens to be turned on. I've carried digital cameras through for many years with no ill effects. I do take the batteries out just in case although I have them ready to put back in if I need to prove the camera works.

The only other thing to note is that there are regulations about carrying spare batteries now re: the number you can carry in hand luggage and how they should be stored.

I know that airplane companies have size restrictions. Just measure your and compare it with the restrictions. :)

I thought the x-ray machines only affected actual film.
