My laptop which is about 4 years old, really could use an upgrade. I would like to buy a new battery and more memory. Other than that it seems fine.

Has anyone upgraded a laptop? Is it easy to do?

i upgraded mine about a year ago - memory wise but it's about to explode methinks. I wouldn't spend a lot of money upgrading it tbh

It very much depends on the laptop but generally speaking new battery and memory very simple indeed. Battery nearly always so, memory can be either under a simple to open panel or in extremely rare cases, under the keyboard.

    I have a Toshiba.

For about $160 I can upgrade both the memory and battery.

Well memory is usually an excellent upgrade! Usually makes an amazing difference

Battery, well if the one you have isnt lasting long any more, time for a new one!

Yeah, it's definitely not lasting as long and the memory would give me 2GB. Is that sufficient?

2GB would be ok for xp but starting to look poor for vista/win7 in my humble opinion

I mean if it's as far as you can take it then it'll be a nice upgrade from 1 but if you could take it further now I would do

Well microsofts official line is 1GB (for the 32bit version) so really 2GB ought to be fine. It's just I'd prefer 3 or even 4. To be honest though if you've been managing with 1, 2 will seem fast :)

I definitely did that earlier. I thought that was a nice tool.

However, I found a great deal on Dell for a new laptop for about $150 more than it would cost to buy windows 7 and upgrade both the memory and battery. So I just went for it. Merry Christmas to me! :D
