Has anyone ever taken a camcorder? I'm used to using a stills camera and that's fine but camcorder is kinda new to me, I dont tend to take one.

I'm wondering do people use it to film the rides? but then it must be easy to miss the whole ride :/

I'm sure Wendy will be telling me what photos/videos are needed for the site in due course... in other words, "my orders" :D

I used one so much on one trip that DH banned it from the next holiday.
The best way, with rides, is to go on it without camera first then film it another time. :)

I tend to be a bit obsessive with photography and filming. :D
Nowadays I restrict it to photos for still shots and filming of parades, rides etc.

Jack films everything from our trips and makes holiday movies for each day.
This year he filmed on a camcorder and gopro.

He posts them on our holiday Facebook page and has his own channel on youtube.

Cool! Hubby did all the filming but he also missed *seeing* the parades..... so the next time he went there was no camcorder. If it was someone's first time they do miss an awful lot by viewing it through a lens. And we still haven't watched the films... why? I have no idea.

I love videoing our holidays, photos are beautiful but when you have videos to watch you relive the holiday again, hear the sounds, voices, accents - I love it. We recently watched a video from Isabelle's first visit when she was 2, oh my gosh just hearing her little voice again - I could've cried!

I bought a video camera eons ago. It was HUGE and took a VHS tape, making me look like a cameraman from the BBC !
I found that it was ok but I was amazed at how much of the action I missed by peering through the viewfinder rather than viewing the subject normally.

Does your DSLR do video?

I know you've got a Canon but I don't remember which model. EOS 7D?

My Nikon does beautiful video. The only limitation being that it will only shoot 10 minutes at a time. But that's fine with me. Usually if I'm taking video, I'm only taking short segments that will be spliced together later in scenes in iMovie. So a 10 minute single video capacity is no hardship. I've used it on several occasions and it's always worked out really well.

Tom ( :macwave:... no expert to be sure.)

I think having short videos here of visits to the parks would be really nice. Is that something that would be a problem though? I know so little about "space" on sites...

As you know, we did little videos of our trip this year and I'm so pleased we did! We still took a few photos, but we mainly used photo pass. I hardly took my DSLR out at all.
We've already watched our videos two or three tines, which is probably already more than we'd have looked at the photos!

I've taken my camcorder a couple of times. The first time I had both my stills camera and the camcorder. This confused me. Every time something noteworthy happened, I started dancing - not knowing whether to reach for the stills camera or camcorder.

Now I take either one or the other. It's funny, the stills are far better quality than the movies, which are full of shaky camera movements and people/things/characters walking right in front of the shot but my family prefers the movies every time! I also find that when I'm really low and missing Orlando, a few minutes of footage can instantly take me back there.

I do like to film some of the attractions, but on the faster ones it takes some work to cut out wind noise. The fireworks were my favourite thing to record - I put a remote mic on my nephew, so the centre channel was all his reaction sounds while the rest of the audio was the sounds of Wishes. That was awesome... until the mic battery died half way through!
