Absolutely insane. A great way to make more money on something which costs them nothing! They'd have been better off using it as a way to differentiate themselves from BA.

And ok, economy perhaps but PE/UC? that's really crazy

I guess so but if it had been my FIRST experience it sure would have been my last.

yep! I sure know what you mean. As I said in my review, at the prices they charge for UC, they should be doing everything perfectly, anything less isn't acceptable at that level.

AFAIK the £25 charge will only apply to economy fare paying passengers, UC & PE will not incur a charge.

I should add that DW didn't like the main course either going out or returning. Going out there was a very spicy sauce with her meal, she did comment on it and they said they'd pass it on. I don't THINK an alternative was offered though. Coming back the chicken was apparently very dry. So although I thought the food was significantly better, I'm not sure she'd necessarily agree.

yep I got this from Virgin Atlantic:-

    Advanced seat assignment

We know how important choosing your seat is to you, and we want to make sure that the seat you choose is the seat you sit in.

On selected flights from 1 April 2014 passengers in our economy cabin may choose their seats free of charge at check in or pay to choose them in advance. We'll be rolling this out on a route by route basis.

Advance seat allocation is free of charge for our Flying Club Gold members, for passengers travelling in Upper Class, Premium Economy and for Economy passengers on fully flexible tickets (these are tickets in fare class Y). Other passengers travelling in the economy cabin need to pay to select seats if they want to choose them in advance of the 24 hour on line check in window.

The cost to assign a seat will be from £25 per person per flight (£50 per round trip) on our long haul flights. There is no charge to assign seats in advance on Virgin Atlantic Little Red.

I'm glad they aren't charging UC or PE.
