After much debate we've (I) decided that we are going to Universal Studios in another week. The debate was whether or not we should spend the money for a vacation at this time. So I sat down with my wife and broke down the numbers. We dont fly so air fare is not an issue. It will cost about 7 tanks($400) of gas round trip. Universal is having a deal where you pay for 2 days and the 3rd for free, not a great deal but saves us about 20 dollars a person. That comes out to just over $500 for 4 of us for 3 days in US and IOA. I figure I can get a 3* hotel on priceline for about 50 dollars a night (last year I got the Best Western Plus for about 40 bucks a night). So for 1,200 dollars I can get us to Florida and back with 3 day tickets to Universal and 6 nights at a hotel. What I didnt mention to her is that I am also planning on buying us a 1 day hopper(another 550 or so) so we can hit Epcot and MK after we are done with Universal. God knows I need to get away from 25 degree weather with snow falling every week. I'm getting too old for these long cold winters.

There is nothing in the world like Disney World with that being said I find the rides at Universal to be better than the ones at WDW...I know.....blasphemous. I find Disney to be magical and my home away from home. Universal has better rides but is has that amusemnt park feel to it. By the third day we are completely done with Universal where as I can spend 2 weeks in Disney and not get tired of it. We go to Disney every August and now we try to hit Universal during February school break.

Are there shows and things at Universal because I just don't do thrill rides?

There are shows although I haven't watched any of them other than Beetlejuice revue. There are some rides that are tamer than others such as Shrek 4-d movie, ET ride,Terminator3-d movie-show, Dr Seussland, Men In Black,a Simpsons simulator ride.
My favorite rides are Spider-Man Harry Potter ,Jurassic Park, Dudley Do Right ,Popeye and The Mummy ride. While we are there Robin Thicke is performing.

I just booked the Best Western Orlando Gateway Hotel thru Hotwire. I paid 50 dollars a night and I am pleased with this hotel. I stayed there last year and it was perfect for the price we paid. It is about a 20-30 minute walk to Universal or a short 3 minute drive.

Great price, Butter. One question....can you make a detour through CT and pick me up so I can go with?

I was going to ask if you saw the Universal deal on offer, I came through my email the other day and was quite tempting ;)

It sounds like a great deal but in reality it saves about 20 dollars a person which is an $80 savings for us. Last year we did so much in two days that we only stayed for a few hours on our third day. I just need to feel the sun on my face at this point, this is the worse winter that I can remember in terms of just feeling cold and continuous snow. I must be getting old because I am so ready to relocate to Florida for good.

    I am SO OVER winter!

I'm surprised you didn't opt to get the annual pass. That's what I usually get when I go to Universal. I really like the flex pay option!

Johnny I go to Universal once a year for 3 days and go to WDW during the free dining so it has never made sense to buy the annual passes for us. Thinking about it now maybe I should do it on this trip so I can use it in August while we are there for Disney and again right before it expires next February. I will look into it.
