We got our reservations for California Grill on 05 December this morning.
woohooo excellent news John! did you see the new menu, what do you think of it?
I'm a bit grumpy that they've changed a couple of the classics but will be interested to try some of the new dishes
Well done! On hold now
Yes I saw the menu Keith and quite frankly I'm not overly impressed. For some reason I thought there would be a lot more choices on it, though I think I've already narrowed it down to two.
I'm sad that they've changed out the oak fired filet of beef, I loved the bbq sauce. Really wish they'd kept that at least as an option (not a huge fan of tomato and it already sounds to me like they're overdoing tomato on the dish ! - Heirloom Tomato Risotto, Marinted Baby Vine Tomatoes, Basil, Tomato Butter)
Anyone have any advice on the best time to book an ADR if you'd like to experience the fireworks at 9:00pm?
inside at your table or outside on the skywalk?
Basically, people will usually book for 7/7.30 in anticipation of being seated for a 9pm wishes show. Pretty much no tables free up between 8-9:30 because everyone is waiting till after the fireworks.
So, if you want to be at your table for the fireworks, try a reservation between 7 and 8. You can of course still get up from the table, ask the server to pause, and go out to watch the fireworks on the walkway anyway, so the table you get doesnt OVERLY matter.
Alternatively, you can book for 9-9:30 and say something like "I'm going to watch the fireworks out on the walkway so dont worry about seating us until after the fireworks, but we'd like a table by the window" That way you almost certainly won't be seated until after the fireworks but may have a quieter meal on a table with a better view.
I'm seeing two different menus posted. This is the one I was looking at and it doesn't mention the tomato version.
BTW our ADR is for 6:55
that looks like the old one to me John :/ (although I prefer it!) the new one posted this morning was https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/contemporary-resort/california-grill/menus/
Well, if that is the new one then my choices get narrowed even further. I like the old one better. I don't do the filet as a rule. Off the new one I will probably pick the Halibut.
Ok...based on your advice, I'm currently holding three reservations
Hopefully you can help me narrow them down to one
Option 1: 7:40 September 30 ADR (Wishes @ 9:00pm)
Option 2: 8:55 September 30 ADR (Wishes @ 9:00pm)
Option 3: 9:00 September 29 ADR (HALLOWishes @ 9:30pm)
This dinner will be just for Jon and I, and although I ADORE Hallowishes, it doesn't QUITE carry the romantic feel of "Wishes" IMO, so that's perhaps my least favorite option. Of the other two, I'm leaning more towards the 7:40.
What's GOOD about watching hallowishes from up at the contemporary is that you see how far away and in different places the fireworks are launched from. The "show" doesnt quite work because they're meant to be watched from in front of the castle whereas you're viewing from the side so there's no proper layering BUT it's fascinating to see them launch from all over the place and the special hallowishes perimeter fireworks where they go off all round the park is an awesome sight from up there!
on the other hand, the romance of the show is lost a little from normal wishes because of the placement BUT the piping in of the music helps a lot and creates the feel.
If you do 740 and get lucky enough to be on a table with a view out of the window, you can enjoy one of my most fave things to do at Disney. Glass of champagne whilst sitting comfortably, nice meal, and watching wishes out of the window with the restaurant in darkness.
any way you cut it, and any day/time you do, you're in for a treat!
