It's a capable little unit and good value I think!

The home/student upgrade to office 2007 for £60 is much better value than the £20 for word 2003 though :/ I realise it's another £40 of course but you don't really want word 2003

M, i clicked your link- are you determined on a dell? i've just got a 3gb, dual core processor 250hard drive, also has a web cam for £20 less from tesco- but it's a lenovo i guess. Depends what you want. The acer on there has a better spec than that too- it depends what you want- make versus spec:unsure:

Lenovo are great, though Tink may want to disagree at this point ;)

Lenovo bought IBMs thinkpad brand and has been manufacturing good quality laptops for a few years now

I won't argue much, Keith. I didn't like this machine at first, but I have to admit, now that I'm a bit used to it (had it 19 months now) it's a work horse. I've carted it around the country, use it almost constantly (it's never shut off)... can't complain (well, I could but they won't give me a Macbook pro). :sigh: :D

A Lenovo for a good price will be a good machine.

I should say, there's nothing inherently wrong with dell. We've bought hundreds of the things at work and they're fine.

If you could get an equivalent toshiba or Lenovo for the same or lower though, then yeah I must admit, I'd prefer it.

The Lenovo's are good machines. I've had one for the last 2 1/2 years at work and it's been a tank. Only issue I've ever had is they had to replace the battery. Other than that, it hasn't flinched. :geekon:

If you do get the Lenovo however, be sure to get the Windows 7 upgrade.

Tom :)macwave:... quick, somebody shoot Vista and put it out of it's misery!)

id go with the toshiba, main reason the 15.4" screen over the the lenovo as it only has a 13.3" and they are not good on the eyes in all honesty if used a lot, and im defo not a fan of acer machines.

working with many makes of laptop in the city/workplace toshiba will always be my laptop of choice [windows based ] we have 4 in the house, all used everyday and one thats 11 years old and still going strong.

guess im a tosh fan eh!!

Well the 15 v 13 inch screen is a definitely difference and one you'd need to see in person to decide! Many folks really adore the 13" ones and yet for me, it's too small.

(I bet more young folks have the 13"s though, more portable and their better eyesight etc. :)

I think the lenovo also had a webcam etc, cant remember if the tosh did. Also the tosh battery life seemed poor?

    As makes go, they're equal

there are loads of tosh's out there with webcams for the same money if thats a need.

the younsters might have better eyesight to start with but after using one for a while i bet they change their minds if its used for hrs on end everyday lol...but with regards to portability the smaller screens are easier to carry around being more compact, but with my 17" tosh i see not much of a weight difference tbh..battery life can be an issue if used out and about but if its used more at home its not, i take my battery out so it doesnt get ruined :)
