Zagat, the quintessential dining guide, this week released their list of “America’s Most Iconic Restaurants.” These restaurants “embody the essence of their city,” writes Zagat.

Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is on that exclusive list. (The only other Florida restaurant on the list is Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami.)

Zagat says that Victoria & Albert’s is a “once-in-a-lifetime experience”; this Grand Floridian “celebration destination” earns “superlatives all around,” from chef Scott Hunnel’s “exquisite,” “beautifully presented” New American prix fixes to “impeccable” service – and an “über-romantic, high-end” setting where “elegance rules” (jackets are required for men); you may “need to hock one of your kids” to pay, but those “trying to impress” say there’s “no finer place.”

The Walt Disney World Resort restaurant also had the highest Zagat scores of any of the 15 notables – 29 for food; 28 for décor; 29 for service (out of a perfect 30). The scores are arrived at after thousands of people share their opinions through Zagat surveys. Zagat uses the results to create trusted rating and reviews.

Chef Scott Hunnel, who heads a team of culinary pros in the Victoria & Albert’s kitchen said “Zagat is one of the most respected food guides in the world, and it’s an honor and a privilege to be included.”

See? That's what worries me. I looked and I can actually book Herself's birthday there. What a nice idea for a birthday dinner! But, and it's an important but, the menus have never really wowed me. :sigh: And for that kind of money, I need to be WOWED.

We spent in the same neighborhood when we did Melisse. It was to this day the best meal, and service we've ever had anywhere. So, I'm not afraid to spend money on excellence, but I would at least like to start out with a menu sample that was impressive.

We thought, well I thought it would be nice for our anniversary, but I don't think it would work for us. You will have to think of somewhere nice for the four of us Tink :)

yay! we visit there once each trip now! Can't beat it and LOVE the dessert room upstairs :D

I hear everything that everyone says about V&A but somehow it works for me and remember, I'm EASILY as bad as Chris (if not worse) for being fussy over food. The first time I went I was convinced I'd hate it and eat nothing but they genuinely worked with me to find what I liked. Each time we've been back it's been the same except that they have my likes on their computer now so it's a little less involved.

It's expensive, but much more expensive than say monsieur paul epcot ? I really think the food and service is worth it. Just as I know if I go to TGI I'll get fun basic food, if I go to Ruth's Chris it'll be a great steak, if I go to V&A the service and atmosphere will be perfect, the food will be perfectly done etc.

I thought that when we were so disappointed in M'Paul, Keith. "Coulda' gone to V&A for this."

I did just ask Herself if she had any interest in ever going and she said, "Oh yes!" Hmmm... back to thinking about the birthday dinner now.

Terry, funny you should bring up Bern's! I've never been but I know it's quite a nice place. I did think of that one as our Chris does like a nice steak. (As does Herself).

There is always Ruth's Chris too, and that's closer.

The thing I LOVE about Berns is that it's a bit of an experience but without being silly about it. By which I mean, you don't go there and have rubbish food in a themed place, you have genuinely brilliant food in wonderful surroundings by fantastic servers at a price that's far far cheaper than Disney.

Once you've had the meal and wonderful wine, you can then take advantage of a tour of the kitchen and the wine cellar. They tell you all about the history, the wines they have and so on.

Once you've done THAT, you get to go upstairs to the dessert room which is hard to describe! Everyone gets their own booth made from wine casks and it's like a maze up there. Lovely subdued light and relaxed atmoshere. Great desserts. It's an adventure in itself.

So, you get a great meal AND a great destination adventure ;) It justifies the trip for me.

Well, Wendy? That sure sounds nice! What do you think Chris would like? It would take some organizing, as we'd not be able to go other than a weekend. :sorry:
