Description:

(from Wikipedia.org) "Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd. (operating as Virgin Atlantic) is a British airline which is owned by Richard Branson's Virgin Group (51%) and Singapore Airlines (49%). It operates long-haul routes between the United Kingdom and North America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia from its main bases at London Heathrow and London Gatwick. Virgin has a smaller base at Manchester Airport."
Virgin has become a favourite for people jetting off to see the mouse! It is one of the few airlines to fly direct to Orlando from Manchester and it goes to Orlando International (MCO) which means that passengers can take advantage of the Disney Magical Express service which is not available from Sanford

Virgin used to be simply the best! that was how what they were setup to be.
Over the years, other airlines, especially the cheap charters, have caught them up and surpassed them in areas such as in flight entertainment and seat pitch.
Virgin from manchester have now stopped using Gates for many of its flights and bus passengers out to the middle of the tarmac to board the plane. This takes ages and is just not what you want at the end of a long flight.
They still include alcoholic drinks in the price which is something. Baggage allowance down from 32KG*2 to 23KG*2 in economy.
Sadly Virgin have just announced a recruitment freeze and a delay in the update of its manchester fleet.

Virgin,
We first flew with them in 1994 (Los Angeles) and it was 5 star all the way there. Since then the service has gone down in my opinion although no worse than any other airline. Cutting costs seems to be the order of the day. However with the impending recession maybe standards will rise again with airlines having to compete, be the best or go bust.
I am travelling with Virgin in Feb 09 so will see how it goes and report back.
