International Driving Permit Now Required in Florida

florida-highways

There has been a recent change in Florida regarding drivers from outside the USA.

Beginning 1st January 2013 anyone who wants to drive in Florida will need to have an International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to their full driving licence, if this wasn’t issued in the USA.

There has been little released in the press with regard to this, but we have received an email confirmation from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

More information is available here

This means that drivers visiting Florida from the UK will now have to provide their full UK Driving Licence and a valid IDP. You can apply for this using IDP Form 1949 IPD at any main Post Office or alternatively through the RAC or the AA.

You can find information on how to apply for the IDP in the UK on our forums here
